1. Who we are

The Venus Almanac is operated by Gretchen Scalora, a sole trader based in Australia (ABN 21 522 799 850), referred to in this policy as "we", "us" or "our". We are responsible for how The Venus Almanac handles personal information.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Because the app works with health information, we apply these principles to everything we do, whatever our size.

2. Information the app uses

To create your daily almanac, the app uses information you enter or allow it to use:

InformationWhy the app uses it
Your first nameTo greet you.
Birth date, birth time and birth placeTo calculate your birth chart, Sun, Moon and rising signs, and daily horoscope.
Cycle details: period start dates, cycle and period length, flow, mood, body symptoms and notesTo estimate where you are in your cycle, predict your next period and fertile window, and tailor style and wellbeing suggestions.
Moon diary entries and the feelings you selectTo keep your private journal and show you personal insights.
Style preferencesTo shape outfit and beauty suggestions.
Your city, or your phone's location if you turn on "Use my location"To show your local weather and dress you for it.
Reminder settings and timesTo schedule your morning, evening and Moon reminders.
Daily star progress and streaksTo run the daily star ritual and your constellation.

You don't have to give all of this. For example, you can skip your birth time, choose a city instead of sharing your location, and log as much or as little as you like. Some features will be less personal without it.

3. Where it is stored

All of the information above is stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone. It is not uploaded to our servers. We do not run servers that hold your personal information, and we cannot see, read or recover it.

If you back up your iPhone with iCloud or to a computer, Apple's backup may include the app's data. That backup is controlled by you and covered by Apple's privacy policy, not ours.

4. What leaves your phone, and why

Weather

To fetch your forecast, the app sends an approximate location (latitude and longitude rounded to about one kilometre, or the coordinates of your chosen city) and your time zone to our weather data provider, Open-Meteo. No name, cycle information or other personal details are sent with it. If we change weather provider, we will update this policy.

Place names

If you turn on "Use my location", your iPhone's built-in location services find your position, and Apple's geocoding service turns it into a town name. This is handled by iOS under Apple's privacy policy. The app keeps only the rounded position and the town name, on your phone.

Reminders

Reminders are created and scheduled on your iPhone. They are not sent through our servers. Reminder text never mentions periods or cycle phases, because notifications can appear on your lock screen.

Sharing

When you tap Share to create a story card, the image is created on your phone and passed to the app you choose, such as Instagram or Messages. Nothing is shared unless you choose to. Story cards leave out your cycle details unless you switch them on.

Crash reports

We do not use third-party analytics or tracking tools in the app. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. You can change this in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.

5. How we use information

Your information is used only to provide the app's features to you: your horoscope and birth chart, cycle estimates, vibe and style suggestions, weather, reminders, the Moon diary and your personal insights. All of these are worked out on your phone.

6. Health information and consent

Cycle details, symptoms and some diary entries are health information, which Australian law treats as sensitive. When you set up the app, we ask for your consent to use this information to personalise your almanac. Because it stays on your phone, it is never disclosed to us or anyone else. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your data in the You tab or deleting the app.

The Venus Almanac is for style, wellbeing and reflection. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose anything, and its cycle predictions are estimates that must not be used for contraception.

7. What we never do

Because we don't hold your app data, we are not able to hand it to anyone, including if we receive a legal request. The only information we could provide is what we actually hold, such as emails you have sent us.

8. Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are bought through your Apple Account and processed by Apple. We never see or store your card details. To unlock subscriber features, the app checks your subscription status with Apple. We may use a subscription management service that receives an anonymous app identifier and your purchase and renewal status, but never your cycle, birth or diary information. If we add one, we will name it here.

The app may include "Shop the look" suggestions with links to retailers. Some are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. When you tap a link, you leave the app and the retailer's own privacy policy applies. The retailer may know you came from The Venus Almanac. We never pass on your cycle, birth, diary or location information.

10. Our website and email

venusalmanac.com is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic technical information such as your IP address to deliver and protect the site. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when fonts load. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies on the site.

If you email us at hello@venusalmanac.com, we keep your message and email address so we can reply. Our email is provided by Google Workspace. We delete correspondence when we no longer need it.

11. Overseas services

Some of the services described above are run by companies outside Australia, including Apple (United States), Open-Meteo (Switzerland and Europe), Cloudflare and Google. The information they receive from us is limited to what is described in this policy. We choose providers with strong privacy and security practices.

12. Your choices and rights

If you live outside Australia, you may have further rights under your local law, such as the European Union's GDPR. Contact us and we will help.

13. Security

Your app data is protected by your iPhone's own security, including encryption when your phone is locked with a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID. We recommend keeping your phone locked. Information sent for weather uses encrypted connections (HTTPS).

14. Age

The Venus Almanac is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from younger children. Because app data stays on the device, a parent or guardian can remove it by deleting the app.

15. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, for example by adding a new service, we will update this policy and change the effective date above. For significant changes, we will also let you know in the app before the change takes effect.

16. Contact and complaints

Questions, requests or concerns: email hello@venusalmanac.com. We aim to reply within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
